Mission & Vision
We would like to extend a very warm welcome to our new CEO, Carla Whelan, who will be joining us from September!
Welcome to our new CEO, Carla Whelan, who is starting with the Trust in September!
'My experience of being a Chair of Governors under the Empower Trust is feeling both positive and supportive'
I feel that I can approach the Trust with any queries or issues that may arise and they respond promptly with confidentiality, professionalism and knowledge. Chair Forum meetings are organised by the Trust and have proved beneficial in sharing experiences with other Chair of Governors and it is also the opportunity to discuss changes in education and systems used. Chairs are actively encouraged to work together to provide support to each other. Empower Trust communicates on a regular basis and organises training for governors to attend and endeavours to support governors in their voluntary roles. Empower Trust are dynamic with their technology and making data easier for us to understand whilst also making it easy to use and access. Schools supporting other schools – doesn’t get much better than that!
– Julie Meijueiro, Chair of Governors at Market Drayton Infant School
'We have loved the small, friendly cohort. Everyone is supportive and there are plenty of opportunities to share experiences’
‘Three varied placements, our host school has given us opportunity to fully immerse ourselves into school and gave us confidence to start placement. Our placements have been tailored to our preferences.’
‘We have valued current, specialist teachers who deliver good subject knowledge. They have all been very supportive and offered ongoing support.’
‘Wide range of immersive, practical experiences to enhance our subject knowledge e.g. visits to the Art Shack, Blists Hill, Whixall Moss etc’
‘Personalised course tailored to us. Felt valued and supported and as a result are prepared, resilient and enthusiastic’
– Initial Teacher Training comments
‘Very useful to speak to different schools within the trust, hearing what works well for them and what doesn’t.'
‘Great to hear opinions relating to the new framework as some have been early adopters so this has been very beneficial. Good experience to share books, ideas and talk through expectations and how to meet them across the trust’.
‘It was refreshing to see that we are all using the assessment grids successfully and these are working well because you can easily identify the children who are working towards. Interventions can be swiftly put into place.
The Early Years trust members are now putting together questions that we can ask children in Summer Term in order to assess EAD, UTW, CL, PSED, M, to ensure conversations across the Trust are more standardised. Working together within the Trust has been really powerful’

'I joined Empower Trust as a new head and from day one felt very much part of the team'
‘I joined Empower Trust as a new head and from day one felt very much part of the team. The collaborative approach to leadership has enhanced and developed my leadership skills to provide the very best educational opportunities for the children at St Mary’s. This has been from peer networks, one-to-one coaching from a leadership coach, support from the central team and from recently completing my NPQH. I could not have wished for a better start to headship.’
